Wiltshire Youth Jazz Orchestra
Next Course Dates
Spring 2025: 1-2 February & 15-16 March, with trombonist and composer Raph Clarkson
Ongoing
Wiltshire Youth Jazz Orchestra (WYJO) provides young jazz musicians aged 12-21 from Wiltshire and the surrounding area with opportunities to perform with like-minded young musicians and leading professionals.
Led by experienced local jazz educator and performer Mike Daniels, the ensemble meets for two courses per year at WMC. Taking part across two weekends and culminating in a concert in our world-class auditorium, WYJO courses give young players the opportunity to push their musical development and learn from visiting guest artists who share their expertise in a fun and welcoming environment. Recent guests have included Jason Rebello, Tim Garland, Laura Jurd, Huw Warren, Steve Banks and Raph Clarkson.

How do I join?
We encourage you to attend our Wiltshire Jazz Academy sessions first – these are monthly practical sessions which are aimed at developing players’ technique and ensemble skills. Our tutor team can then get to know you and assess whether you’re ready to join WYJO. If you are, you’ll be invited to an informal audition.
Participation Fees
Fixed cost to be paid by all WYJO members to cover the general cost of running the ensemble. This fee guarantees participation in any virtual projects delivered due to course cancellations throughout the year. The Membership Fee is non-refundable.
Fully refundable if WMC cancels any activity in the building.
With support from Wiltshire Music Connect and individual donors, we have a small fund that can offer up to 70% financial assistance with course fees for those needing support. Please contact creativelearning@wiltshiremusic.org.uk or call 01225 860100 to learn more.
Sibling WYJO Members are eligible for a 5% reduction on all fees.
