A concert celebrating Liz Lawrence Winner, pianist Thomas Sladden
Wiltshire Rural Music, in partnership with Wiltshire Music Centre, are proud to present an afternoon concert of music curated by our Liz Lawrence Award Winner, 19 year old Thomas Sladden. This award is given annually to an outstanding young musician seeking higher education in the field of music and Thomas scooped the £1,000 prize in 2023 thanks to his incredible skills at the piano.
Thomas, from Malmesbury, is currently studying Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and is returning to Wiltshire to present us with 90 minutes of jazz standards and original compositions from the magnificent Steinway grand piano in the main hall. Thomas is no stranger to this stage as he has been an integral part of Wiltshire Youth Jazz Orchestra, beginning as a musician and ending up as a well-respected mentor for the younger members coming up through the ranks. Having achieved a distinction at Grade 8 (ABRSM), as well as winning two Moors Music Festival Young Musicians’ Awards in 2020, we are confident in a high quality repertoire from a very well-respected local talent.
This concert will be presented as a jazz trio (piano, drums and double bass) featuring music from composers such as Van Heusen, Irving Berlin and Gershwin as well as music penned by Thomas himself.
Wiltshire Rural Music is a Trowbridge-based charity that bring music and music-making opportunities to the people of Wiltshire. To find out more about student bursaries, room hire, instrument hire and our rural outreach programmes, head to www.wiltshireruralmusic.co.uk
