Jazz royalty performs original material, mainstream and South African jazz, and of course some Dave Brubeck hits
Jazz enthusiasts will be excited to learn that American pianist Darius Brubeck, son of the legendary Dave Brubeck, is performing at Wiltshire Music Centre with his band, The Darius Brubeck Quartet!
In 2025, The Darius Brubeck Quartet will have been together for nearly twenty years, but this will be their first appearance at the Wiltshire Music Centre. Playing to sold-out houses at regional festivals and clubs, including London’s Ronnie Scott’s, their acoustic sound is melodic, spontaneous, rhythmic and engaging and there is always a freshness about their performances.
Every member of the group is deservedly featured, and the group dynamic continues to grow. Darius’ informative comments between tunes bring the audience closer to the music and no one remembers a performance that didn’t end with a standing ovation.
The Quartet tours internationally and, in June this year, they return to France for concerts featuring some new material. Their popularity is partly due to their varied programmes, which include original material, mainstream and South African jazz and of course some Dave Brubeck hits. Darius’ father Dave still holds the record for the most sales of a jazz single, Take Five.
Biography
The Darius Brubeck Quartet has travelled the world and released three critically acclaimed CDs, Cathy’s Summer, Years Ago, and their most recent, The Darius Brubeck Quartet: Live in Poland, recorded at the end of their historic 2018 tour.
Darius has had a long career in jazz. In the 70’s and early 80’s, he led his own groups, played with the likes of Don McLean and Larry Coryell, and was ushered into the international jazz scene as a member of Two Generations of Brubeck and The New Brubeck Quartet (Dave, Darius, Chris, and Dan Brubeck) under his father’s leadership. As an educator, Darius founded and taught at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, as well as teaching in Romania and Turkey. Darius now lives in the UK and leads the London-based Darius Brubeck Quartet, which has been together for nearly 20 years, and tours internationally. Since 2010 he has also toured with Brubeck’s Play Brubeck.
