Bradford on Avon Live Music Festival

‘Louise Parker sings a tribute to Nina Simone and Billy Holiday’

Louise was a big hit at last year’s Live Music Festival – and we’re excited for her Bradford on Avon return. This time she’ll be performing in St Margaret’s Hall – singing a tribute to Nina Simone and Billy Holiday.

Louise Parker is a jazz and soul vocalist based in Plymouth. She grew up in a house filled with music, from the folk, calypso and opera enjoyed by her Jamaican-born mother to the trad, swing and be-bop from her jazz-obsessed father, vocalist Louise Parker, aptly named after Louis Armstrong, who was born to create the sort of soulful sound that is earning her a great reputation in the jazz world.

Louise is bringing with her an excellent trio of musicians;

George Cooper on keys.
John Donnelly is the bass player
Jem Fatna is the drummer and percussionist.

The show will include these songs;

Billie Holiday – Strange Fruit, Sunny Side of the Street, All of Me, My Man,
Nina Simone – Don’t Smoke in Bed, Feeling Good, Mississippi Goddam, My Baby Just Cares for Me

Billie Holiday – From a difficult childhood, her success as a jazz singer began in the nightclubs of Harlem. She had mainstream success during the 30s and 40s, winning 4 Grammy Awards. She became an influential figure in the jazz world, but died at the young age of 44. She was ranked No 4 in the Rolling Stone list of Greatest Singers of All time (2023).

Nina Simone – Having been denied access to a classical music education due to racism, she became a successful jazz vocalist, releasing more than 40 albums. She was ranked No 21 in the Rolling Stone list of Greatest Singers of All time (2023).

Doors open at 6.15pm, performance starts at 7pm.

Seating will be cabaret-style arranged on the night.
