Orkney-born folk quartet include Bradford on Avon in their 10th anniversary tour

In honour of their 10th anniversary, this Orkney-born folk quartet are on a whistle-stop tour of the UK – including Bradford on Avon!  Presenting an evening of highlights from their three critically acclaimed albums, the group’s fiery fiddles, foot-stomping piano, and enchanting three-part vocal harmony will take you through the musical highs of their last decade.

FARA brings together four leading musicians at the forefront of today’s Scottish folk scene. Kristan Harvey, Jeana Leslie and Catriona Price’s three fiddles combine with Rory Matheson’s piano to produce a fiery sound rooted strongly in their upbringing among the music of Orkney. Their repertoire of self-penned tunes, their original songs using words by Orcadian poets, alongside the four member’s diverse individual musical experiences, combine to produce an exciting and individual sound. They have performed their music to audiences around the world and in autumn 2022 release their long-awaited new album. ‘Energy Islands’, the band’s third studio album, is inspired by Orkney’s innovation at the forefront of the renewable energy revolution. With vibrant arrangements full of rich harmonies, energetic fiddle playing and driving piano, audiences are sure to be thrilled by this new body of work.

The new decade marks an exciting new chapter for Scotland’s fabulous fiddle-led Fara, as founding Orkney frontwomen welcome young Highland pianist Rory Matheson to the line-up. Having bid a fond farewell to original fourth member Jennifer Austin, who’s moved on to other projects, Fara recruited Matheson via the fabled folk scene in Glasgow, their shared adoptive hometown. With all three fiddlers being fast friends from childhood, Jeana explains, “We weren’t only looking for an excellent musician we could enjoy listening to, but just as importantly, someone willing to put up with us on a full-time basis.”
