The passing of the year

Join Cantamus for a captivating afternoon of music reflecting on the passing of time, the changing seasons and the celestial bodies that influence our lives. Jonathan Dove’s stunning song cycle for double choir and piano The Passing of the Year takes us from a barren evocation of earth in winter to summer’s Hot Sun, Cool Fire and Tennyson’s Ring out Wild Bells using enthralling rhythms and mesmerising effects. Daniel Elder uses the moon and stars as his inspiration in Three Nocturnes, which are richly harmonic and gently soothing. With other works by Howard Skempton and Morton Lauridsen our spring concert invites you sit, listen and gaze into time and space with a programme of awe and wonder.
