SMETANA String Quartet No 1 in E minor ‘From My Life’
The Brodsky Quartet bring their storytelling flair back to the WMC stage with a programme journeying from the great musical cities of Vienna to Prague. Franz Schubert’s heart wrenching yet ever popular Quartetsatz is followed by Isidora Zebeljan’s heartbreaking homage to Mahler. The first half concludes with a groundbreaking quartet from the ‘father’ of the string quartet himself, Joseph Haydn.
Smetana’s extraordinary first quartet is a unique classic of the repertoire. Entitled ‘From My Life’ it certainly lives up to its billing, tracing the life of its creator from young man, setting out in the world, full of youthful vigour – through frolicking fun and rocky romances to an unfortunately more tortured end.
Please note, there has been a change in programme from that which appears in our Spring Sumer 25 Season Brochure.
